Artist's Comments

Here they are, folks, the first five marks of power armor. All are painted in the colors of Legions that went traitor during the Horus Heresy, because I don't think the pre-heresy guys get enough attention.

From left to right:
Mk. I 'Thunder' - Luna Wolves
Mk. II 'Crusade' - Iron Warriors
Mk. III 'Iron' - Emperor's Children
Mk. IV 'Maximus' - World Eaters
Mk. V 'Heresy' - Death Guard

These guys were a blast to make, and took on average five hours for each. I painted one Marine every evening this week. As much as it was fun, this was a test of my ability. I wanted to see if I had the discipline to stick to a schedule, to see if I could actually keep myself in check this summer when I start working on commission again. I think I pulled it off. Also, this quality will be the standard troops for my Emperor's Children army.

I've really got my work cut out for me.

Excellent work. This is a fine display of the development of the space marine power armor. Very well painted! I like the way the Iron Warrior came out.

I actually dislike him, I think the Iron Warriors colors are too monotone.

Heh, yeah I can agree with you there. I suppose the scheme is rather bland and simplistic, but I think I'm just a sucker for hazrad stripes.

These are not conversions, these are the original pieces cast by Games Workshop in the early 90's. All of them have their heads molded onto their bodies.
