When the Dwarfs march to war, sometimes the throng is led by the High King himself, other times it's led by a great Dwarf of noble blood and respected lineage, but sometimes the throng is too small to be bothered with by the High King or the other nobles, so a younger (relatively!), less noble Dwarf might lead the throng, and his title is Thane. Make no mistake, the Thane is still a fantastic leader and a tough opponent in close combat, armed with powerful runic weapons and armor inscribed with mighty runes of protection.

Here's my Thane, he won second place at the Guild's birthday party in the fantasy single model category. The guy who beat me is actually a good friend of mine, and he entered a jaw dropping Empire standard bearer. I've never seen such a beautiful model, and I can only hope to be as good as him some day. He was still impressed with my Thane, notably the cloak. I think next time I paint a green cloak, I'll be building up from a brown shade instead of black to give the fabric a little more warmth.
